Caterina Kostenzer presents the report as a hybrid genre, whose special achievements arise from the interplay of journalism and literature, as well as facts and fictions. In favor of a holistic perspective, the historical and theoretical prerequisites for establishing the report as an independent genre are first introduced. In addition to the history of travel writing, the New Objectivity, and the realism debate, the theory of radical constructivism forms the basis for further considerations regarding the report. In the main part, existing definitions of "report" are first discussed, followed by the presentation of achievements considered typically journalistic and those regarded as typically literary in a report—without failing to emphasize that the separation of these two systems is.
