Energetic psychology and EMDR show remarkable results in the treatment of emotional disorders. But what are the scientific explanations for their effectiveness, for which there are already various hypotheses in the field of EMDR? The contributions gathered here from psychotherapists and researchers from Germany, France, South America, and Canada explore this question. At the center is bifocal mindfulness as an umbrella term for the various sensory-emotional innovations: one focus of attention is placed on the issue or trauma to be treated, while a second focus is on sensory stimulation such as (self-)touch and eye and body movements. The intervention forms can be integrated into virtually all medical or psychotherapeutic treatment methods as well as coaching procedures.
