The Miscellanea Mediaevalia have been presenting works from the Thomas Institute of the University of Cologne since their founding by Paul Wilpert in 1962. The core of the publication series consists of the proceedings from the Cologne Medievalist Conferences, which have been held every two years since they were initiated over 50 years ago by Josef Koch, the founding director of the institute. The interdisciplinary nature of these conferences also shapes the conference proceedings: the Miscellanea Mediaevalia gathers contributions from all medieval disciplines - medieval history, philosophy, theology, as well as art and literary studies are all part of a comprehensive view of the Middle Ages.
