Product details
The Egyptian monetary system was organized as a domestic currency. This means that only the local currency was permitted for transactions there. This system was also adopted by the Romans. The so-called Alexandrian coins, named after their minting location, were issued continuously as the sole means of payment in a province, just like the coins minted in Rome. Ursula Kampmann and Thomas Ganschow, both expert authors on ancient coins with numerous publications in renowned journals, present the entire range of coins from the Roman mint of Alexandria in this catalog, from the beginnings under Augustus starting in 30 BC to the mintings under Domitius Domitianus (297-298 AD). They highlight specific features and assess the coins in the common grades of preservation.
