Dieter Hillert examines how the building blocks of linguistic evolution can be discussed and how they have developed in relation to modern humans. In particular, the neural mapping methods presented here allow for important insights into the neural circuits involved in language processing. The author also illustrates cortical mappings in both typical and atypical language behavior. Accordingly, from these perspectives, it is discussed how our language ability has evolved to convey ideas, emotions, goals, and humor through spoken language. The proposed evolutionary language model is based on the cognitive abilities of our biological ancestors.
