The authors of this book focus on traditions in psychology that have a close connection to philosophy and the humanities. They address "forgotten," rarely considered psychological theories and examine and discuss them from philosophical and cultural psychological perspectives. By re-reading old texts, alternatives to the current mainstream in psychology, which is predominantly oriented towards neuroscience, are developed. In addition to European psychology of the 19th century, Chinese and Indian thought traditions are also considered: the authors of these contributions engage with Buddhism and Hinduism, Daoism, as well as Chinese cultural psychology.
