The topic of the prenatal dimension in psychotherapy has developed over the past 100 years, initially more in psychoanalysis, then more in humanistic psychology and various regression therapies. However, the subject remained somewhat of an insider topic due to the difficulty of communication with the postnatally oriented zeitgeist, and it hardly found its way into general therapeutic practice. The abundance of empirical evidence regarding the life-historical significance of prenatal and birth experiences from stress research, brain research, learning research, and epidemiological studies on fetal programming of cognition and emotion calls for a revision of the previous attitude that assigned a marginal significance to prenatal aspects. Our book aims to contribute to this revision by presenting the current state of therapeutic implementation of insights regarding prenatal and perinatal aspects in psychotherapy.
