In recent years, culture has increasingly been viewed from a cultural economic perspective. As a result, terms from economics are increasingly entering cultural studies discourses, where they undergo adaptations and reinterpretations. This volume focuses on the (developmental) dynamics of music cultures through the specific lens of productivity as a central concept of economic thinking, whose use is hardly reflected upon in current cultural studies debates. The book centers on definitions of productivity and its possible extension to music-related processes. Additionally, it examines practices in both new and established music cultures, as well as their contextual conditions, in terms of the productivity understandings contained within or applicable to them.
