The 2005 revision of the Turkish Penal Code is a fundamental step in the amendment process as part of Turkey's efforts to join the European Union. Does this penal code still adhere to traditional cultural values, or are there signs of Westernization emerging as part of the adaptation process? Addressing this question proves effective from a linguistic and translation studies perspective. The lexical and syntactic analysis of the new legal texts, along with a comparison to their predecessors—the old Turkish Penal Code and the German Penal Code—provides insights into the relationship between language, law, and culture, thereby opening new horizons, especially for legal translation.
