Product details

Through the careless use of the term fascism, we lose the sense of how insidiously, threateningly, and very concretely fascism is re-entering our present. Italian, Spanish, and German fascists of the 1920s to 1940s initially used the term as a symbol of authoritarian strength, national greatness, and ideological purity. What fascism is or should be has since been primarily defined by its opponents, who have developed theories about fascism. Today, those who once again subscribe to fascist ideas cloak themselves in more innocuous terms. They disguise themselves as patriots, guardians of values, or critics of the elites. A central element of this strategy is the reinterpretation of history. They demand an end to the so-called culture of guilt, relativize the Holocaust, and refer to the Nazi barbarism that laid the continent to waste as mere "bird droppings" in history. Such statements are not rhetorical slips; they are ideological signals - deliberately set to decouple historical guilt and pave the way for a new normalization of the unspeakable. Fascism is back - not under the same name, but with the same mechanisms: exclusion, authoritarianism, contempt for humanity.
