Product details
A grand game set against the backdrop of the 1939 Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires, featuring historical and fictional events. In the summer of 1939, the Chess Olympiad takes place in Buenos Aires. During the tournament, World War II breaks out, and many players, including Mirko Czentovic, the fictional chess world champion from Stefan Zweig's "Chess Story," do not return to their home countries, particularly Jews who remain there. This chess novel blends historical facts and real personalities with literary elements and characters, bringing to life a very special time in a unique city, step by step. Heinz Magnus, the author's grandfather, flees from the Nazis to Buenos Aires. During the Chess Olympiad, he meets the German chess champion Sonja Graf and falls in love with her. The grandson, Ariel Magnus, reconstructs their story.
