Product details
In the Catholic-conservative Upper Austria of the 1960s, the underage Alwine Schimpfhuber becomes a victim of rape. Large parts of the village population blame her, and she is ostracized and excluded from religious education by the priest. The perpetrator confesses his crime to the village priest according to the tenets of the Catholic faith, but the priest reveals the entrusted secret in a drunken stupor. His housekeeper, who knows how to interpret the mumbled fragments of words, finds herself in a serious moral dilemma. Should she expose her kind-hearted priest? Alwine, who is unfortunately pregnant, wants to leave her hometown and pressures her mother, who remembers the Jewish concentration camp refugee Alon Brunstein, who had been hidden by their family from the brown hunters towards the end of World War II. With a heavy heart, she plans the escape.
