Product details

On November 5, 1757, Frederick the Great achieved a spectacular victory near the small West Saxon village of Rossbach over a combined army of French regiments and imperial contingents. 22,000 Prussian soldiers defeated a force twice their size. Never before or after would the Prussian king achieve such a decisive victory with fewer losses. While France undertook no further active campaigns against Prussia after the battle, the reputation of the imperial army was significantly damaged. In contrast, Frederick's military fame, which had suffered a first shadow after the failed campaign in Bohemia that summer, shone with renewed brilliance. This volume brings together essays by renowned authors who re-examine the Battle of Rossbach from different perspectives. These include analyses of the three very different forces involved in the battle.
