Wilfried Erdmann, Germany's most famous sailor, was on the move again - this time in Scandinavia! Together with a new boat, a highly sporty X79, and his "around-the-world sailor" Astrid, they traced a large "Scandinavian figure eight" in the Baltic Sea over the summer. The destinations were Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Heading north, indeed. A summer voyage calls for simplification - at least if one wants to experience sailing, as Wilfried Erdmann has advocated for years, as a great freedom. The boat is sporty. Adjustable backstays and various trimming devices require constant attention - especially since Astrid, an excellent helmswoman, revels in outpacing other yachts. The reward: speeds of 6 knots are not uncommon, with 7 to 8 knots also being recorded. Comfort is sacrificed, along with self-steering systems, headroom, and railings.
