Product details
The Beneke Diaries are among the most comprehensive and captivating documents regarding the culture and lifestyle of the bourgeoisie between the French Revolution and the Vormärz. Ferdinand Beneke kept a detailed daily diary from 1792 to 1848, recording political events, reflecting on contemporary trends, engaging with current literature, and describing everyday life and social interactions. Additionally, he included countless appendices, correspondence, and manuscripts in his diaries. Reading the Beneke Diaries thus becomes a cultural-historical exploration of their era, investigating a society in transition, inscribed within a multifaceted bourgeois life. The previously unpublished corpus will be critically edited in full and published in four volumes, each accompanied by an extensive introductory volume. The edition is planned to consist of approximately 20 volumes.
