Two beers, and then another two – that's all it takes for a bit of closeness. But both brothers, who move from pub to pub, know that the warmth of alcohol doesn't really help against the cold outside. The older brother drinks without any particular reason, out of sorrow or anger at a world filled with pain and suffering, wars and violence. Yet, on this evening, he shares not only stories of Stalingrad and Marc Dutroux with the younger brother, but also about his impending fatherhood. What neither of them knows is that there will be no reunion afterward. They will only speak to each other once more on the phone. The next call, nine months later, brings the news of the older brother's death. What remains are memories of him and questions: Why all this? What do we want in the world? And what exactly is it supposed to be, living and dying? Heinz Helle masterfully intertwines these themes.
