Die Unsterblichen
German, Ketil Bjørnstad, 2011Product details
Actually, Thomas Brenner leads a good life. He is a successful doctor, happily married, and has two children. In his late fifties, he looks forward to retirement, traveling with his wife, and a time of relaxation. But suddenly, he feels old and overwhelmed. His orderly life begins to unravel. What he wishes for is to let go of responsibilities; instead, he is burdened with more and more. Here are the two daughters, who in their mid-twenties still aren't standing on their own feet, and there are the elderly parents who are becoming dependent on care. And Brenner himself is not spared from illnesses either. The long-planned family trip to Chicago is supposed to be the first step toward a more carefree life, but everything turns out quite differently. Following the success of his novel trilogy about the young pianist Aksel Vinding, "The Immortals" is Ketil Bjørnstad's personal work.
