Die V 60-Familie 01
German, Manfred Grape, 2019Product details
With 942 units built, the V 60 series is the diesel locomotive that was procured in the largest quantity by the Deutsche Bundesbahn. From 1955 to 1963, all major German manufacturers supplied these indestructible locomotives to the DB. MaK in Kiel alone contributed the largest share with 382 units. One third of the built vehicles received a reinforced frame, resulting in an increased service weight of 53 tons. In Volume 1 of the new series portrait, Stefan Högemann traces the fascinating history of these inconspicuous yet very robust and durable shunting diesel locomotives, which significantly influenced the structural change in railways during the 1950s, up until the railway reform in 1994. The conversion into remote-controlled shunting locomotives of the series 364/365 is also documented. Additionally, the new deliveries of the V 60 for foreign railways are taken into account.
