Product details

The US current account deficit has been at the center of discussions and investigations by numerous analysts for some time now, raising concerns among investors and stakeholders due to its size and persistence. Since the mid-1990s, the current account and net foreign debt of the United States have continuously deteriorated. While this trend could still be attributed to strong economic growth and a high investment rate until the late 1990s, since the turn of the millennium it has primarily been driven by high consumption, a declining savings rate, and rising national debt. The surplus of dollars implied by the US current account deficit was expected to lead to a depreciation of the dollar on the global market, thereby reducing US demand for more expensive foreign goods while simultaneously increasing foreign demand for cheaper products.
