In H.P. Lovecraft's short story "Reanimator - The Reviver," we meet Herbert West - a brilliant yet misguided researcher who believes that the human body is nothing more than an organic machine that can be "restarted" even after death. As a medic, West goes to the Flanders front of World War I, where there is plenty of human material for his experiments. Tim Curran's homage "The Reawakened of Herbert West" allows us to delve deeper into this dark chapter. We learn about secret laboratories, legions of walking dead, and gruesome experiments, a monstrosity that feeds on the dead, and an unimaginable being beyond life and death, which, under the cover of night, sets out in search of its mad creator.
