The Viennese culture of the turn of the century has its own charm and displays late-period and decadent moments. The atmosphere feels saturated with Western traditions, and there is the famous "tiredness." From this, a new art suddenly emerges, a European culture of modernity. This "young Vienna" includes Hofmannsthal and Klimt as well as Altenberg and Otto Wagner; it encompasses Bahr, Kraus, Schnitzler, and the coffeehouse culture; as well as Freud's psychoanalysis, the scandals surrounding the Secession, and the Schönberg concerts. Broch and Musil are already on the scene, while Hugo Wolf and Mahler gain international recognition.
