Alzheimer is among us: Everyone is now familiar with Alzheimer's disease, and everyone knows it has something to do with forgetfulness. When someone can't remember a name, it's easy to say with a hint of irony: "... you know, Alzheimer's" or "... greetings from Alzheimer." "Alzheimer" sounds silly and evokes discomfort. After all, it is a disease that can affect anyone; the older you get, the more common it becomes. Alzheimer has entered everyday language like no other medical condition in the history of medicine. One knows how quickly a family name can become a source of dread from the highly regarded physician Creutzfeldt and his colleague Jakob. They are now forever combined as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Parkinson's is also an eponym, as these disease names are called.
