The fact that the humanities are systematically blind to those layers of cultural worlds that do not belong to the dimension of meaning and significance and can only be accessed through interpretation forms the starting point and the polemical thrust of this book. What hermeneutics overlooks are phenomena of presence: the ability to engage with things of the world. In this sense, philosophical concepts are developed and discussed that aim to redefine our relationship to aesthetic experience and learning through a return to phenomena of presence, potentially creating space for moments of tranquility in a daily world that Jean-François Lyotard once described as being in a state of general mobilization.
