The predicate "epoch-making" is probably only given to a few works with such great justification as Petrarch's Latin Dialog Secretum. In this fictitious conversation between the church father Augustine and "Franciscus," a stylized alter ego of Petrarch, it is about nothing less than the tentative draft of an early modern subject philosophy that strives to free the human individual from the restrictive bonds of medieval theological thought and thus has central importance for the Renaissance humanism founded by Petrarch (1304-1374).
