Few things repel people more, and few things exert greater fascination, than spectacular crimes: the murder of a spouse, the kidnapping of a wealthy heir, the extortion of a well-known corporation. As soon as such an event occurs, television and the press are on-site to report exhaustively on the crime and the police investigations. While the crime and the investigative work attract significant media attention, the judicial processing and assessment of the act often remain quiet. Justice is a formidable institution; it speaks a complicated language and is cautious of outraged consensus and hasty judgments. For a democratic society, responsible court reporting is therefore of immense importance. The most significant court reporter in the Federal Republic of Germany was G.
