During a vacation, Gurov meets a young lady with a little dog, from whom he hopes to find some excitement. However, the childlike woman he becomes close to is so different from the idea he has formed of women of a lower class that he feels completely transformed. When they eventually part ways, Gurov expects that the image of his lover will fade away like all the others.
