Anneke Weiss, in her mid-seventies and a widow for a long time, has just rediscovered her zest for life and her enthusiasm for actively engaging in the life of her son Bennie, a thwarted composer. Then, the doctors diagnose her with cancer. Bennie insists that they keep his mother's terminal illness a secret from her. Life seems to go on as usual—Anneke even falls in love with 77-year-old Fred Bachmann—but then, out of the blue, everything falls apart: the elderly lady has vanished without a trace. There is hope that she has set off on one of her pleasure trips, which always surprises her son with pride. But why hasn’t she given any sign of life? Bennie and Fred set out to search for her. They find Anneke—but not on the Champs-Élysées; instead, she is at the freight yard in Split. What has led Anneke to make this decision?.
