Andrea de Carlo tells the story of a friendship against the backdrop of the 1968 revolt, exemplifying the story of his generation. Mario, the first-person narrator, and Guido, both from more or less petty-bourgeois backgrounds, meet in school in Milan in 1968. Guido is the more aggressive, precocious one, full of ideas and utopias, and anti-authoritarian, while Mario is fascinated by him and attaches himself to him.
