Due to the increasingly complex tasks of production planning and control, referred to as PPS, various business metrics have been defined over time to make the overall planning problem more manageable and easier to handle. These metrics describe specific sub-goals within the PPS, aimed at optimizing them, which should ultimately lead to efficient and cost-effective production. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the role these metrics play within the framework of PPS and to present methods for optimizing them, and consequently the entire PPS.
