The youth detention is repeatedly discussed by experts regarding its design, efficiency, and effectiveness. Critical attitudes meet optimistic views that see youth detention as an opportunity. This work explores whether there are ways to promote and support young detainees to prevent further criminal behavior. The aim is to clarify whether youth detention is effective in its current form. Additionally, it will be shown in what context and considering which factors a social-pedagogical intervention is possible. An overview of the institution of youth detention and the relevant legal foundations will be provided. Furthermore, specific social-pedagogical measures will be presented and developed.
