Product details
For over thirty years, the Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have experienced immense economic growth driven by revenues from the oil sector. Under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed, the great father of the nation, these revenues were invested in building infrastructure. The associated construction activities, particularly in Dubai, created a massive demand for skilled and unskilled labor that could not be met by the local population. As a result, the Emirati government recruited the necessary workers from neighboring Arab and East Asian regions. Initially characterized by Arab migrants, this migration movement was soon dominated by labor migrants from East Asia, particularly from India. Today, with around 85% of its workforce being foreign laborers, the UAE has the highest rate of migration in the world.
