Product details

The aim of this study is to determine the role that social media played in the Gezi protests in Turkey. This includes discussing various perspectives on online activism and presenting the results of an online survey in which protesters were asked about their use of social media during the Gezi protests. The relevance of the topic arises from the often-mentioned use of social media in connection with the events surrounding Gezi Park. The protests at Gezi Park in Turkey began on May 28, 2013, in Istanbul with a non-violent demonstration by environmentalists opposing a planned construction project by Prime Minister Erdogan. A shopping center is to be built on the site of Gezi Park, which borders the central Taksim Square in Istanbul, requiring the felling of some trees.
