Quick, unobtrusive, and versatile, these small cameras allow filmmakers to gain a different perspective on reality and provide easier access to protagonists and topics. Films are being created that delve deeply into the personal lives of the protagonists. However, not only on set but also in the job market, the DV camera is changing existing structures: It offers talented emerging filmmakers the opportunity to tackle projects without a large budget, while some established documentary filmmakers fear that quality may suffer.
