Due to the strained financial situation of the Federal Republic of Germany and the changes in the healthcare sector that have led to increasing competition between publicly funded hospitals and private providers, hospital real estate has increasingly come into focus for operators. Today, the property is no longer seen as a cost-intensive factor in the company's balance sheet, but rather as an important component of the value creation process. As a result, the property is examined for the first time throughout its entire life cycle, during which the usage phase plays a central role and also serves as the basis for the analyses in this work. The aim of this book is to thoroughly examine hospital real estate throughout its entire life cycle, including determining the specifications for planning and construction.
