Competent educational action is difficult to maintain in times of increased stress without sustainable support in various forms. This is the conclusion of the Scientific Advisory Board for Family Issues in its report on strengthening familial relationship and educational competencies. One concrete possible form of such support is the offering of parent training programs. The present study starts from the question of what can be considered competent educational action in our current society—during times of increased stress—and what central parental educational competencies can be identified accordingly. Following this, it discusses how parental educational competencies can be successfully promoted through parent training programs. A central focus is a comparison of the three current programs.
