Over the past 60 years, the growing significance of Islamic Banking in the financial world has led to a new perspective on this still largely untapped banking sector. This study explains the principles and differences of credit products that are Sharia-compliant and contrasts them with conventional credit products. The aim is to examine the distinctive main features of lending in Islamic banking and to establish a connection with our traditional lending practices. Additionally, the reader will gain an overview of the origins and roots of Islamic Banking, as well as the influence of Islamic legal schools that have played a significant role in Islamic Banking. In this context, it will also be investigated whether the religious impact has an effect on economic efficiency and what that influence looks like.
