Municipal bioenergy projects connect ecological, economic, and social solutions for climate and environmental preservation, support for agriculture and forestry, and community living in predominantly rural areas through sustainable energy generation. Successful implementation of municipal bioenergy projects requires not only the engagement of the population but also leadership from individual persons. Current attempts to initiate such projects vary greatly, and there is a wide diversity in the organization of the initiatives. Previous research studies primarily focus on an action research project and mainly deal with collective engagement and the impacts of such projects on the population. This work centers on the actions of the initiators.
