The profound social changes that have taken place in Germany, especially over the last 50 years, have had a significant impact on people's life courses. In all areas of life, many opportunities and individual choices have emerged. On the other hand, trends of de-traditionalization, processes of individualization, and the deconstruction of traditional society have also made many risks apparent. This is briefly the consequence of postmodern society. With the replacement of industrial societal forms by new, diverse ways of living, individuals today find themselves in a situation where they must create and stage their own biographies—without the backdrop of a context that undoubtedly offers security. This presents many difficulties, particularly for young people.
