Sustainability, promoted as a model of a holistic perspective, is presented as an approach that incorporates economic, ecological, and social factors into its viewpoint. It is important to emphasize that the individual, equally important elements cannot be realized independently of one another, and only through the intersection of these so-called "three pillars of sustainability" can the objectives be achieved. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the renewable energy source biodiesel to determine whether and in what way it meets the demand for a connected implementation of the three dimensions. Therefore, differentiated quality and action goals had to be derived from the relatively abstract guiding principles of sustainable development. This was done with the assistance of the federal government's strategy paper "Perspectives for Germany.".
