The study begins after the problem statement is unfolded with a description of the classical view of project management. Starting from a brief account of its origins, the characteristics relevant to the investigation of what is referred to as classical project management are presented. Parallels to Taylorist work organization and control, as well as the guiding principles of planning and planning methods (phase model, project structure plan, Gantt chart, and network planning methods), are explained in more detail. In this context, difficulties of classical planning methods and planning-driven actions are highlighted. Among other things, pre-existing information deficits, relationships captured in a solely mono-causal manner, and the division of management activities (planning) and execution activities in projects are mentioned.
