Migration represents a break in the life biography of those affected. Immigration societies are not particularly open to immigrants and their families. This book focuses primarily on migrant youth of the 2nd and 3rd generation and their social situation. How can these young people navigate the tightrope of developing their own identity while facing discrimination and being unwanted? The book provides insights into a psychological understanding of identity (Erikson), Goffman's discussions on stigma, and general structural conditions for migrant youth. An exploratory study examines and discusses the social environment of these young individuals. A model of intercultural competence is presented as a theoretical approach for a respectful engagement with diversity.
