Product innovations and new distribution channels must be strongly supported. To this end, we want to create the framework conditions for new asset classes in Germany. This includes the introduction of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) on the condition that reliable taxation for investors is ensured and positive effects on the real estate market and location conditions are to be expected. According to the wording of the coalition agreement between the SPD and CDU, the introduction of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) is fundamentally approved. However, it took some time to determine the exact date of introduction, retroactively set to January 1, 2007. Discussions regarding the design and tax implications of REITs are the reason for the delayed timeline. The now confirmed introduction of the REIT concept in Germany will have fundamental impacts.
