This investigation is based on the following research question: Do mass media, as a third variable—alongside public opinion and policy output—have a measurable influence on responsiveness? In other words, do mass media have an impact on political actions or public opinion regarding responsiveness, or do they at least play a relevant role in the interaction framework? This essay is divided into three main parts. The first part (A) is a summary of various research findings from different fields, which will be considered in the third part (C). The first part of the paper discusses general aspects of responsiveness research. Specifically, this means that there will be a definitional and analytical examination of the three terms.
