The present work deals with the interest groups operating within the healthcare system, the influence they exert on health policy, and the question of how this lobbying affects patient welfare. The German healthcare market is experiencing significant growth. This is largely due to the fact that the majority of the population is mandatorily insured under statutory health insurance. Additionally, our society is aging, which will increasingly rely on healthcare services in the future. Furthermore, the healthcare system is a perpetual site of reform, where there is a lot of money to be made. All of these factors provide opportunities for powerful organized groups that are active in healthcare and seek to promote their interests, even though many interest groups claim to represent the common good.
