Although the term "strategy" is still often ridiculed or met with defensive reactions at some hierarchical levels of the police, discussing it is of particular importance for the future of police work. De Vries addresses the usefulness of strategy and clarifies: "Strategic statements about the future of the organization raise questions for every employee that concern their own future: What benefits does this new strategy bring to the organization and to me personally? To answer these questions and overcome the resulting uncertainties, there needs to be repeated personal discussions and engagements between leadership and employees, rather than one-way communication through various media. It is possible to bring the strategy to life within the organization if there is a commitment.
