This study deals with the biography of Count Julius Andrássy (the Elder) and his Bosnian policy. It aims to determine whether Bosnia and Herzegovina were acquired by Austria-Hungary through war or diplomacy. The author, Gülsen Istek, sees Count Julius Andrássy, who rose from a revolutionary sentenced to death to become the foreign minister of the Habsburg monarchy, as "the key of Austria-Hungary's relations with the neighboring Turkish provinces since 1875." He always tried to preserve the advantage of Hungary in every way and that is why he is still considered one of the greatest statesmen of this country. This study gives an overview of the life of Andrássy, from his childhood to the beginning of his diplomatic career and his rise to the position of Foreign Minister of the Dual Monarchy, the aspirations of Austria-Hungary in the 19th century, the administration of Bosnia and Herzegov.
