The first version of the book was originally written in Hungarian. The German version is the result of further, in-depth considerations. The authors came to the conclusion that two cardinal concepts must be at the center of the interpretations: first, the history of the institutions of Hungarian social policy, and second, the historical detours of poor relief. Unfortunately, poverty is one of the social phenomena that has run through the entire history of humanity. It is considered the most difficult problem in the modern history of Hungary, to the extent that Hungary was referred to as the country of three million beggars during the interwar period. The book provides a historical overview of the main issues in the history of Hungarian social policy based on the findings of other social historians.
