It is generally known that prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. Depending on the constantly changing moral standards of society, this profession enjoys varying degrees of acceptance. The fact that such a sensitive topic often leads to polarization is reflected in various, often very extreme viewpoints, which are evident not only in individual opinions but also in the regulatory intentions of entire states. Prostitution is often seen as a necessary evil, one where the primary victims are usually the prostitutes themselves. The most important question is whether the recognition of prostitution as a legal and socially accepted means of earning a living brings about a real improvement in the living and working conditions of those affected. In Germany, the legal equality of sex workers in the labor market was established in 2002.
