The fusion of technology and humanity. Few topics are as popular right now as the research and speculation about the future that the endless data collections of the internet and the most innovative technologies—self-learning superintelligence, nano- and neurotechnology, or brain-computer interfaces—will bring us. The artist Julie Valmes (born 1977 in Poland, lives and works in Vienna) has long been engaged with the scientific fields of transhumanism, artificial intelligence, biophysics, and energetics. In her sculptural works made from diverse materials such as bronze, aluminum, steel, silicones, colored resins, and wood, the artist reflects the contradictory reality of the transparent individual of the present: what masquerades as transparency is, for her, totalitarian control.
