Product details
Painting about Painting Thomas Arnold (born 1975 in Gelsenkirchen, lives and works in Cologne) explores central questions of painting in his artistic work. The trained stonemason and church restorer presents in his multifaceted oeuvre both abstract monochrome works with recurring color symbolisms and a series of figurative motifs that include interiors, everyday objects, and architectural subjects. As a master student of Walter Dahn, he investigates the conditions and possibilities of painting on various visual and material levels. Arnold's approach is not about a strictly linear evocation and evaluation of the medium's conditions, but rather about a back-and-forth movement between its potentials. The monograph focuses on the comparison of different series of works and the consequences, peculiarities, and deviations contained within them. A conversation with the artist was conducted by Markus Mascher and Carolin Scharpff-Striebich. The essay was written by Larissa Kikol.
